The film is set in the Universal Century timelines and marked the culmination of the original saga that began with Mobile Suit Gundam and continued with Mobil Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. Credit... 1091 Media Midnight Family NYT Critic's Pick Directed by Luke Lorentzen Documentary, Action, Crime, Drama 1h 21m Periodically while watching “Midnight Family” you feel as if you can’t look at the screen for another second. But you can’t look away either. That tension encapsulates the push-pull of this documentary, a haunting portrait of a family of emergency medical worker s in Mexico City. Because as you tag along on another wild nighttime ride, and yet one more life-or-death race, the family’s careening ambulance seems like an emblem both of their reality and of your own whiplashing position as a viewer. The family at its center, the Ochoas, own and operate one of the many private ambulances that serve Mexico City. The director Luke Lorentzen takes you right inside the ambulance, squeezing you in alongside the Ochoas and several others as they tend to traumatized victims and an occasional member of a patient’s family. It’s no surprise that it can be a deeply distressing fit. Nearly as alarming, though, are those instances when the Ochoas race a rival ambulance to the next accident and the documentary enters that unsettling zone where the pleasures of the chase (and good filmmaking) slam into your ethical sensibility, which is to Lorentzen’s point. Your stomach may start jumping (your thoughts too) e ven before the movie and ambulance take off. After opening with some sober scene-setting — a man washing blood off a bright yellow stretcher — Lorentzen drops in some of the documentary’s few informational details. “In Mexico City, ” reads text on a dark screen, “the government operates fewer than 45 emergency ambulances for a population of nine million. ” Much of the city’s emergency health care, the note continues, is handled by “a loose system of private ambulances. ” The Ochoas belong to this informal network, tending to hundreds of patients each year from inside their red-and-white ambulance. Serving as his own cinematographer, Lorentzen spends a lot of time in the back of that van, a space that you settle into as workers and patients enter and exit. He regularly points the camera at the windshield, giving you front-row access to the chaos; every so often, he trains it on the rear-door windows, as if looking for an escape. Another camera, mounted on the top of the dashboard, enables you to see inside the van, where Fer, the Ochoa paterfamilias, is generally found riding shotgun beside one son, Juan, a 17-year-old with a meticulous fade haircut and the wheel skills of a NASCAR racer. When the sirens blare and lights flash, Fer and Juan can make a formidable, at times grimly diverting, tag team. “Get out of my way, bicycle! ” Fer yells over the ambulance loudspeaker in an early scene, as the intensely focused Juan drives and another of Fer’s sons — the babyish-looking Josué, who’s around 10 — tries to steady himself in the rear. As Lorentzen cuts from the van’s occupants to the darkly jeweled street and back again, everyone and everything passing by is told where to go. “Keep moving, bus! ” Fer yells, before slipping into street-philosopher mode. “This is why people die! ” he says, over a lingering shot of Josué. “Because people like you don’t move! ” The juxtaposition of Josué’s face and Fer’s words are representative of Lorentzen’s method. Embracing a familiar observational approach, he doesn’t talk you through “Midnight Family” but instead lets his filmmaking choices convey his thoughts on the Ochoas and the mercenary world they inhabit. (He edited the documentary and is one of its producers. ) Lorentzen never explains how he found the family, who not only granted him seemingly free access to their ambulance, but also brought him into their home. He’s more expansive in the production notes where he says that he introduced himself after he saw Juan cleaning the van while Josué was playing with a soccer ball. “Midnight Family” can be tough to watch, but it never feels unprincipled or indulgently exploitative. Some of the most traumatic incidents have, of course, occurred before the ambulance roars up, but not all. Even when the worst happens, Lorentzen doesn’t turn the gore and tears into a spectacle, and it’s instructive that some of the most dreadful moments take place off-camera or are conveyed through the triage patter or in later conversations. He also tends to obscure the faces of the wounded and whether legally or ethically motivated, this discretion is a relief. It’s humanizing for the victims (be warned that these include children) and for the viewer. One of the enduring hurdles in visual storytelling is how to represent the suffering of others without adding to it, a difficulty that Lorentzen has clearly weighed. That’s evident in his point of view, what he shows you and doesn’t, and obvious in his empathetic portrayal of the Ochoas. They’re an appealing, affecting collection of souls, and you too want the best for them, even when you grasp their role in a system plagued by class inequities and inadequate services, kickbacks and shakedowns. Here, if it bleeds, it leads right into everyone’s pocket — the police, emergency workers, hospitals — a truism that makes this documentary feel finally, appallingly, universal. Mark Ruffalo is brilliant, prefect role for him to deep dive into and really sink his teeth into. He has got one of those traits about him as an actor, easily likeable. so it is no problem getting behind his cause. Im a sucker for any "standing up for the small guy" type of story and this one certainly delivers in that respect. Not Oscar worth probably but not every performance needs to be. just a solid one. Seriously? Who edited this clip? Why would you cut it off right before the title of this bands book? He's doing such incredible work and you cut the book out of the clip.

Definitely watching this. ダーク・ウォーターズ Movie stream. I have seen it twice and I am going to see it again. The story to someone like me was extremely fascinating seeing it unfold before me, probably due to the fact that I really didn't know how it was gonna end. There are several really shocking parts to me that stick out. Firstly the amount of information that the company had and that they knew about the chemical in question. They knew that there were potentially negative effects to human health and due to the lovely fact that they were self-regualting meant that they could almost keep it to themselves and lie. It is surprising and not at the same time, of course a big company like this would do that. can you imagine the fallout from this if it came out in the 80's or 90's? The other shocking part is how long it took to get anything done. I don't know how faithful the film is to the real events but the fact that film more or less ends in 2015, is mind blowing considering it started in the late 90's. Makes wonder how I didn't know more about this.

But in Dark Waters, the violence is entirely impersonal: it’s perpetrated by suit-and-tie-wearing corporate officers whose pursuit of billion-dollar profits attacks the bodies and destroys the health of thousands of their fellow citizens. Protected by its massive political and economic clout, the DuPont corporation is unlikely to be exposed or called to account for its willful poisoning of an entire community. Parents looking for films that provide positive messages for their teens can definitely add Dark Waters to their list. Its biggest content issue is profanity, with two sexual expletives and another dozen or so moderate and mild profanities scattered throughout the story. But the negative content is more than balanced by the movie’s depiction of characters with integrity, compassion, courage, resilience, persistence, and unwavering commitment. Real life role models this exceptional are hard to find and worth sharing with our families. And, as an added bonus, the movie also portrays a solid marriage between loving partners who are able to disagree constructively while also treating each other with respect and affection. Dark Waters isn’t a graphically violent film and parents don’t need to worry about gory images that will frighten their teens. Its violence is more insidious – the strong and well-connected refusing to take responsibility for the terrible consequences of their corporate decisions on the bodies of the weak and powerless. The film depicts the 1761 Battle of Panipat fought between the forces of Afghan ruler Ahmad Shah Abdali and the army of Marathas, a Hindu community mainly based in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. Modern Panipat is a district in the northern state of Haryana, about 85km (53 miles) from capital New Delhi. Abdali, a hero to many Afghans, was the founder of the Durrani Empire and leader of the Pashtun tribe who defeated the Maratha army. To most Indians, he is a fierce invader who killed thousands of Maratha soldiers. Panipat is the latest Bollywood film to attract criticism for its misrepresentation of historical characters, especially Muslim rulers from the medieval period. Another Bollywood film Padmaavat (2018) portrayed Alauddin Khilji, a Muslim king of Afghan origin who ruled Delhi in the 12th century, as a "savage" who "gnaws meat off the bone" - following the most prevalent stereotypes about Muslims, according to critics. "Abdali fits the Alauddin Khilji mould of 'otherness' - tall, imposing, and dismissive of Hindu martial prowess. The two manifest the stock Muslim 'invader' tropes that dominate the 21st-century Hindu psyche, " wrote film critic and columnist Kaveree Bamzai on The Print website. The director's take on history is a failed attempt, but a make-me-happy entertainment for the Hindus, " Shoob told Al Jazeera. "Ahmad Shah Durrani is universally acknowledged by historians as a man of wisdom. " On Sunday, a statement released by the Afghan foreign ministry said Idrees Zaman, the acting foreign minister, met with Indian envoy to Kabul Vinay Kumar to discuss the "issue of Afghan sensitivities" surrounding the film. Even before the film's release, the Afghan embassy in New Delhi had written a letter to the Indian government to raise its concerns over misrepresentation of the Afghan ruler. "Since the film is related to former Afghan emperor Ahmad Shah Abdali, any insensitive/distorted depiction of his character might provoke emotions of Afghans which could be unfairly exploited by others to adversely affect the trust and harmony that exists so well among the people of two countries, " the letter stated. India has had friendly ties with Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban in 2001, with New Delhi being a major financial backer of the Western-backed government in Kabul. India has also earned the goodwill of the Afghans by carrying out major infrastructure projects in the war-torn country, including building the new parliament in Kabul. Bollywood films and Hindi-language soap operas are very popular in Afghanistan, which is among the biggest markets for the Hindi film industry. Afghans demand review of film Nafees Ur Rehman, a Pashtun researcher from neighbouring Pakistan whose work partially focuses on the vilification of Pashtuns and Afghans in colonial literature, said he decided not to watch Panipat. "It is fine to take some liberties while making historical films but these liberties should be consistent with the historical accounts and shouldn't challenge them, " he told Al Jazeera. "If I have to learn history, I can look up various authentic books, and I would prefer to watch a comedy for entertainment. But not Panipat movie. " In 2007, Afghanistan banned the Bollywood film, Kabul Express - a story about three journalists in post-Taliban Afghanistan - because parts of it were deemed offensive to the Shia Muslim Hazara ethnic minority. "Bollywood films most of the time vilify and stereotype Muslims. It was easier for them to find proxy in Pakistanis to portray Muslims that suited their agenda; but with the Afghans, they have found a new villain, " said Rehman. "I think this is a result of widespread religious nationalism. And as of now, such kind of nationalism demands to find 'heroes' among 'yourselves' and 'villains' in 'others'. Gowariker, whose 2001 epic Lagaan was nominated for the Oscars, claimed he retained the dignity of Abdali's character in his film. Jawad, a photojournalist based in Kabul, echoed the concerns raised by Rehman, saying he was disturbed by how "Islam was portrayed the religion of violence and fear" in the film. "In one scene of the movie, it shows Abdali praying and immediately after he finishes the prayer, he is shown killing people, " he said. "Nowadays, people do not have time to read history, they believe what they see. I wish the Indian filmmaker focused on real history, instead of being biased towards Afghans and Muslims. Panipat Controversy – Why Maharaja Surajmal didn’t fight the Third Battle of Panipat Ahmed Shah Abdali After the death of Shah Alamgir II, there were two rival nobles at the Delhi court, Ghazi Uddin and Nazibudaulah. Some dissident courtiers invited Ahmed Shah Abdali from Kabul to counter Ghazi Uddin. With the help of these accomplices, Ahmed Shah Abdali succeeded in removing Ghazi Uddin from Wazarat, and obtained one crore of rupees as indemnity. On 29th June 1757 Ahmed Shah Abdali sat on throne of Delhi and issued coins in his name. Ghazi Uddin with his friends sought asylum at Bharatpur. Ahmed Shah Abdali wrote to Maharaja Surajmal to pay a fine of Rs one crore or be ready for war. Maharaja Surajmal accepted the challenge. He sent his son Jawahar Singh on a flank to Balabgarh and himself attacked the forces of Abdali when they were yet busy in preparations for the action. Though the Jats had suffered heavy casualties, Durrani dared not proceed to attack Deeg and Bharatpur. Due to this heavy bloodshed Cholera broke out in Durrani’s forces and they had to leave the Jat territory. Surajmal preferred to face all these troubles than to give up one who had sought his protection. Why Maharaja Surajmal didn’t fight the Third Battle Of Panipat The political aim of Ahmed Shah Abdali was to create differences between Hindus and Muslims and thereby strengthen the Delhi throne. To some extent he succeeded in his designs. With this policy, a country wide resentment spread amongst Hindus. By this time the Marathas had got sufficient power in Deccan. They became champion of the people’s cause and decided to have a pitched battle with Abdali. They rushed messengers to all Hindu rulers and asked them to unite and support Marathas for the common cause of defending the religion. It is a pity, that the Rajput rulers did not respond favorably and gave an evasive reply. However, the daring Jat Ruler Maharaja Surajmal volunteered readily with his formidable Jats force. On the other side all the Muslim rulers in India, united to support Ahmed Shah Abdali. Ahmed Shah cunningly invited Ghazi Uddin with the assurances that he would reinstate him as Grand Wazir. Surajmal permitted Ghazi Uddin to return to Abdali, but he was so heavily indebted to the Jats, that he categorically rejected Abdali’s invitation. An operational conference was held at Agra to discuss the plans for the battle against Abdali. Surajmal was a tactician of high caliber. He appreciated that the enemy had superior forces. The only way in which Marathas could win was by organizing their forces into highly mobile hard hitting groups. He suggested that they should shed their heavy baggage and their families and send them across River Chambal to the fort of Deeg for safety. He also advised that they should avoid pitched battle, conduct guerilla warfare and continue harassing and delaying the enemy till the on-set of the rainy season. By this time Abdali’s forces which were not accustomed to hard life would get demoralized and worn out. Then the Marathas should attack, and neutralize the enemy forces. These tactics of Maharaja Surajmal were very much appreciated by all the Maratha Chiefs except (Sadashiv) Raghunath Rao Bhau, who considered the adoption of these tactics to be below his dignity. He bluntly told Suraj Mal that the Marathas did not need help or guidance from any quarter for the battle of Panipat. Inspite of this Maharaja Surajmal remained in support with Ghazi Uddin and 18, 000 troops. In July 1760, Marathas occupied Delhi, Ghazi Uddin was appointed Wazir and a prince of Moghul dynasty was placed on the throne of Delhi. But soon after, much against the wishes of Maharaja Surajmal, the Marathas removed Ghazi Uddin from Wazarat and appointed a Mahratta in his place. In 1800 East India Company annexed #Surat and signed a treaty with the Nawab. Maharaja Surajmal, disapproved of this action and told them that being a thing of beauty it should not be destroyed. He offered to pay a sum of Rs Five lakhs to Marathas, provided they spared the historical monument but Marathas did not desist from doing so and ultimately they got gold worth Rs 3 lakhs only out of it. The patience of Surajmal got exhausted by these ravages and the insulting behavior of Bhau. He left for Bharatpur without informing anyone. Maharaja Surajmal, now had two enemies, and obviously he was required to fight whoever came out victorious. The Marathas were badly defeated at the Battle of Panipat. A large number of them were butchered, their treasury was looted, their woman molested and they fled away from the battlefield helter-skelter, worn and weary, naked and hungry, the Maratha soldiers entered the territory of Maharaja Surajmal. He looked after them, gave them food and clothes and finally bid them farewell after giving one rupee and one seer of gram to each for their home journey. After watching the #Panipat Trailer, I thought it's gonna be a Disaster 👎🏻 But I was wrong, actually it's a "Decent Good Family Movie" 👍🏻Good to get a glimpse of our #History... Couldn't take my eyes of him #Arjunkapoor he did his best but its just that i m not very fond of him. I wish we had #HrithikRoshan instead of him.
